River and sea at Fulong
At Fulong Beach (福隆海水浴場), the Shuangxi River (雙溪河) enters the Pacific. Golden sand lies between the river and the open sea, linked by the curved Rainbow Bridge (彩虹橋). The beach was already a resort during the Japanese period. Its broad, relatively calm river water supports activities including kayaking and sailing.
Through the old railway tunnel
The Old Caoling Cycling Tunnel (舊草嶺自行車隧道) runs for 2,167 metres between Fulong and Shicheng (石城). Built in 1924, it became a cycle route in 2008. Red brick, vintage-style lamps and old rails remain visible inside, while a marker in the middle identifies the boundary between New Taipei and Yilan (宜蘭).
