An exhibition across the centuries
Its permanent exhibition, Our Land, Our People: The Story of Taiwan (斯土斯民:臺灣的故事), has seven chronological sections extending from prehistory to the present. Subjects include early arrivals, maritime trade, communities living between mountains and sea, Japanese rule, and the path towards democracy.
History in the architecture
The pool before the museum symbolises migration across the sea. A photovoltaic Cloud Wall (光電雲牆) combines 1,350 solar panels and 405 screen-printed glass panels to spell out the museum’s English name while supplying electricity. The exhibition building draws on red-brick courtyard houses and Indigenous stilt-building columns. Outside, a large stainless-steel kinetic installation shaped like oars evokes collective rowing and the movement of waves.
