Xiaying District 下營區

Xiaying District (下營區) links local farming industries with the work of painter Yan Shuilong (顏水龍), who came from Hongmaocuo (紅毛厝). Two cultural sites in this part of Tainan (臺南) introduce these different strands of local history.

Yan Shuilong’s memorial park

Yan studied painting in Japan and later in Paris. His memorial park includes a bronze statue before the Yan family temple, a memorial hall and displays of his life and work. The family temple’s Fujian-style architecture is another feature of the grounds. The park commemorates his contribution to fine art and public art.

Geese, silk and black beans

Xiaying’s Industrial and Cultural Exhibition Hall (下營區產業文化展示館) reuses a former warehouse. White geese, sericulture and black beans are its main themes, alongside old agricultural tools and local arts. Dedicated spaces show black-bean soy-sauce processing and the stretching of silk for quilts, connecting exhibits with production techniques.
