A campus conceived as a museum

The museum’s approach extends beyond its main building: historic campus sites and distinctive ecology form an environmental museum, while departmental collections make up a network of specialist museums. The main museum researches, displays and preserves the university’s cultural assets. Its headquarters occupies the former Japanese-period administrative centre on Chenggong Campus.

From donated objects to a university museum

In 2000, collector Hsu Po-yi (許伯夷) donated 2,262 objects, including stone carvings, wooden and bamboo objects, puppets and ceramics. Research into the donation later focused on wood carving, puppetry, ceramics and stone lions. The museum was formally established on 11 November 2007, with exhibitions on hand-operated mechanical models and the study of Professor Su Xuelin (蘇雪林).
