Lioujia District 六甲區

Lioujia District (六甲區) has a landscape of farmland, irrigation channels, ponds, old buildings and temples in Tainan (臺南). Anthuriums are a distinctive crop, and the bald-cypress woodland at Jingpupi (菁埔埤) provides another botanical focus.

Woodland and old buildings

The cypress trees stand beside Provincial Highway 1 (臺一線). Nearby Linfengying Railway Station (林鳳營火車站) is a Japanese-style timber building. Within the district, Heng’an Temple (恆安宮) is dedicated to Mazu (媽祖), while Chishan Longhu Temple (赤山龍湖巖) and the Chen Family Old House (陳家古厝) add religious and domestic architecture to the landscape.

Noodles and shaved ice

Doucaimian (豆菜麵) is a local noodle speciality; the Lin family shop uses a distinctive garlic soy sauce. At Mazu Temple Traditional Ice (媽祖廟古早味冰), shaved ice is paired with miancha (麵茶), candied starfruit and fenkueh jelly (粉粿), with sugar syrup cooked over a wood fire.
