Inside the waterworks

Pipe-shaped signs lead along garden paths to rooms displaying pump motors, filtration equipment, bottles and equipment, diagrams and documents. Interactive light installations explain the waterworks’ history. In the rapid-filter room (快濾筒室), fourteen large filter cylinders stand in two rows, their weathered blue surfaces connected by black pipes beneath a timber roof supported by iron framing.

Gardens and the clean-water reservoir

The grounds include an art garden, dense woodland, succulents and the Hatta Pool (八田水池). Several art installations were moved here from Yuguang Island (漁光島). Stone steps climb to the separate clean-water reservoir (淨水池), with low grey-white masonry, blue wooden doors and moss-covered surfaces.
