Poplars beside water and sand
The central plains occupy the middle and lower reaches of the two rivers. Riverbanks support poplar woodland, while the wider landscape includes lake-edge wetlands, marshes and desert grassland. Honghai Scenic Area (红海景区) combines lakes, rivers, wetland, Gobi terrain and poplars. Its five core areas include the Kashgar River wetland, a water recreation area, a folk-culture village, the Poplar Sea (胡杨海) and a Silk Road post-station area (丝绸古道驿站).
Performance and local food
Dolan music and dance (刀郎歌舞) form part of local culture. At the October 2015 Silk Road Post-Station Culture and Tourism Festival, staged dramas and Dolan Muqam (刀郎木卡姆) accompanied celebrations. Honghai grilled fish (红海烤鱼) is a local speciality.
