Metalwork beside the springs

Local artisans work gold, silver and copper into handicrafts, with silverware central to the village’s identity. Water emerges in springs around the houses, while the wider scenic landscape includes lotus ponds and reed beds. The village sits at about 2,200 metres in elevation.

Huanglongtan and Chaoxia Temple

Huanglongtan (黄龙潭), southwest of Heqing’s old town at the foot of Luofeng Mountain (螺峰山), consists of three connected ponds. Willows line their banks, with the mountain rising behind the water. Chaoxia Temple (朝霞寺) stands on Luofeng Mountain and dates to the Ming period. Of its four former shrines, only Xiaqing Palace (霞清宫) remains; the others have been destroyed.
