Inside Bao’en Temple

At Long’an Town (龙安镇), the temple was built between 1440 and 1460. Its buildings face east and rise westwards along a 300-metre central axis. Nanmu timber, painted murals, bracket sets and dragon carvings feature throughout; a revolving scripture cabinet and a thousand-armed Guanyin (千手观音) are among its distinctive works. Side halls, a bell tower and covered corridors flank the principal buildings. The main axis includes the Hall of Heavenly Kings (天王殿), the main Buddhist hall and the Pavilion of Ten Thousand Buddhas (万佛阁).

Mountain villages

In Gaocun Township (高村乡), converted farmhouses along Laohegou (老河沟) retain earth walls and tiled roofs. Laohegou forms part of the national park, and local residents work as nature guides.
